“A magic circle is a circle of space marked out by practitioners of some branches of ritual magic, which they generally believe will contain energy and form a sacred space, or will provide them a form of magical protection, or both. It may be marked physically, drawn in a material like salt or chalk, or merely visualized.” -Wikipedia
For a Christian witch, a circle represents the encompassing of God, around us. It reminds us that he is seen everywhere, watching over us. We call the corners to represent all creation and Adonai’s mighty work and amazing power. We invoke the four archangels, as they are the servants of God and are sent to protect us, by his decree. Because of this, we use this ritual in order to cast and close a circle.
What you need:
• A wand, atheme or sword (if you do not have any of these, your index finger on your dominant hand is an acceptable substitute.)
• Objects to represent the four elements
• A circle (it can be drawn with physically ‘example: in the dirt with your chosen tool, on the floor with chalk or paint, or with a cloth that has the design on it, etc.’ or an imaginary one

Place the elemental objects at each corresponding point, take your chosen tool and stand in the circle; then say:
“To my right, Raphael and to my left, Gabriel. In front of me, Michael and behind me, Uriel. And over my head, the Shekinah.”
Starting from the northern point, say:
“Michael, cardinal angel of the northern corner, elemental angel of earth, I invoke thee. Remind us that there is none like God and bless this circle.”
To the eastern point, say:
“Raphael, cardinal angel of the eastern corner, elemental angel of air; I invoke thee. Remind us that our Lord is the great physician and bring the healing power of Yahweh to this circle and bless it.”
To the southern point, say:
“Uriel, cardinal angel of the southern corner, elemental angel of fire; I invoke thee. Be a reminder of the shining light of Yahweh, guard this space with your flaming sword and bless this circle.”
To the western point, say:
“To Gabriel, cardinal angel of the western corner, elemental angel of water; I invoke thee. Remind us that God is our strength; guard, protect and bless this circle.”
Point above you and say:
“Shekinah, holy presence of Adonai, the spirit of Yahweh. I invoke thee, I am a willing vessel, come and dwell within this temple and breath your life into me and bless this circle.”
When you are finished with your magical workings and rituals, it is important to close your circle. To do so, simply give a prayer of thanks to God and thank the angels for guarding the circle.
